Lahore: The Punjab government has provided the facility of video calls for prisoners. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the facility of video calls for prisoners, stating that the Central Jail Lahore is the first jail to provide video call facility for prisoners.
According to media reports, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited the Central Jail Kot Lakhpat in Lahore, where she broke her fast with female prisoners, and personally serving a variety of food items including samosas, pakoras, fruits, and more. She inspected the quality of food prepared in the jail kitchen, and also directed to prepare a complete menu for Iftar throughout the month of Ramadan.
Maryam Nawaz also toured the first-ever video call facility for prisoners, marking Central Jail Lahore as the first correctional institution in the region to offer such a service to inmates globally.
Maryam Nawaz also inaugurated a 20-bed hospital designated for the rehabilitation of drug addicts within Central Jail Kot Lakhpat.
Maryam distributed gifts and financial assistance, with male prisoners receiving Rs.15,000 along with clothes, and their female counterparts receiving the same amount along with clothes and bangles.
The Punjab Chief Minister also announced a reduction in the sentences of prisoners across the province by three months and met with the appointed jail staff to announce the release of 155 prisoners.
