Plan to Introduce Plastic Currency to Curb Fake Currency in Pakistan

Islamabad: Negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF for the next installment of the loan will continue today as well.

Sources indicate that IMF officials will be briefed on tax collection, FBR reforms, and other matters.

According to sources, State Bank officials will brief the IMF delegation on plans to curb fake currency by introducing new plastic notes and issuing a national report under the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

It is said that the IMF will be briefed on further immediate steps regarding reduced tax collection in the current fiscal year and improving the capabilities of government institutions and privatization efforts.

The IMF had previously conditioned Pakistan to prepare a report on the preparedness of anti-corruption institutions. It is said that the Ministry of Law and Ministry of Interior will have to implement this condition of the IMF.
