Accountability Court Suspends Arrest Warrants for Hasan and Hussain Nawaz

Lahore: The Accountability Court of Islamabad has temporarily suspended the perpetual arrest warrants issued for Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, the sons of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in three National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana delivered the verdict, announcing the suspension of the arrest warrants for the accused until March 14. These warrants were originally issued seven years ago. The decision follows the court’s reserved stance on whether to suspend the perpetual arrest warrants previously issued against Hasan and Hussain Nawaz.

Represented by their lawyer Qazi Misbah, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz appeared before the court, along with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutors Sardar Muzaffar, Usman Masood, and Sohail Arif.

During the proceedings, the lawyer for Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, Qazi Misbah argued that both Hasan and Hussain were declared absconders, with perpetual warrants issued against them. He highlighted that all other accused in the three references had been acquitted, underscoring their clients’ intentions to return to Pakistan and appear before the court on March 12. Accordingly, they requested the court to suspend their perpetual warrants.

Misbah emphasized the brothers’ willingness to cooperate with legal proceedings and their commitment to attend the accountability court.

Present in court were NAB prosecutors Sardar Muzaffar, Usman Masood, and Sohail Arif, alongside the defense lawyer Qazi Misbah, while Judge Nasir Javed Rana presided over the hearing.

The NAB prosecutors acknowledged the purpose of the warrants to secure the presence of the accused in court. They affirmed that Hasan and Hussain Nawaz should be given the opportunity to participate in the proceedings if they intend to return.

NAB prosecutor Arif contended that the accused must appear in court as mandated by law, asserting that the purpose of the warrant is to secure their presence in court. He emphasized the need for the brothers to be given an opportunity to appear before the accountability court.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the accountability court reserved its decision on the petitions, setting the stage for further developments in the ongoing legal proceedings.
