Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued Forms 45, 46, 48, and 49 for all constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies for the general elections 2024 after 26 days of election.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s laws, these forms are required to be issued within 14 days after polling. Following the elections held on February 8, 2024, the Election Commission was bound to release these important documents related to the elections on its website by February 22, which is considered crucial for ensuring transparency in the elections.
Section 95 of the Elections Act 2017 binds the returning officers to submit consolidated election results to the Election Commission within 24 hours of vote counting. After that, the Election Commission has 14 days after the elections to make these documents accessible to the public.
Now, after the lapse of the prescribed legal period, the Election Commission has released Forms 45, 46, 48, and 49 for all constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies for the general elections 2024 on its website.
However, the release of these documents has failed to appease the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has vehemently criticized the Forms 45 uploaded by the ECP, branding them as “tampered.”
The PTI has persistently claimed possession of “original and signed Form-45s,” citing them as evidence of widespread “fraud” in the election result compilation process. Raoof Hasan, a PTI leader, asserted during a press conference following the announcement of results that the PTI-backed candidates were allegedly denied 85 seats through “fraudulent” means.
It is noteworthy that these forms include information such as the total votes cast at all polling stations in each constituency, votes obtained by candidates, joint votes from all polling stations, as well as rejected votes and serial numbers of ballot papers, among other details.
