Lahore High Court Dismisses Petition Seeking to Stop Aurat March

Lahore: The Lahore High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Shahid Karim, has ruled against a petition aiming to stop the upcoming Aurat March, set to take place on 8th March on International Women’s Day.

The petition, filed by citizen Azam Butt, sought to restrain Aurat March on grounds of purported concerns regarding public peace and order. In the application, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore and others were listed as respondents.

Expressing apprehension over the potential impact of the women’s march, the petitioner contended that the slogans and banners displayed during the Aurat March were not in accordance with Islamic societal norms and unacceptable for Islamic society of Pakistan, fearing that another Aurat March would pose a threat to peace just as it has in the past.

The petitioner further argued that while the Constitution guarantees women’s rights and endeavors are made to enhance their welfare, the promotion of Aurat March was deemed unethical.

The petitioner stated that if fundamental rights are not being provided to anyone, they can approach the court, requesting the court to order the state to prevent the unethical publicity of the Women’s March.

Following initial deliberations, the court deemed the petition inadmissible and deferred its decision. Justice Shahid Karim subsequently rendered the final verdict, dismissing the petition.
