Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister-elect of Pakistan, is scheduled to take the oath of office on Monday (today), marking his second term in office since 2022.
According to media reports, the President of Pakistan will administer the oath to the Prime Minister-elect, in which other members of the National Assembly will also participate. The oath ceremony will be held at the President’s residence at 3 p.m., with President Arif Alvi administering the oath.
It should be noted that Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second time yesterday, securing 201 votes, while his opponent candidate, Omar Ayub Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), received 92 votes.
The impending oath-taking follows a recent power-sharing agreement between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form a coalition government, aimed at addressing the country’s pressing economic and security issues.
As he prepares to assume office, Shehbaz faces the daunting task of implementing economic reforms to address Pakistan’s financial challenges. Additionally, Shehbaz’s tenure is anticipated to be met with opposition from Imran Khan’s PTI, which has vowed to protest against alleged electoral irregularities.
