Sharif Brothers Condemn Imran Khan’s Letter to IMF, Label it as Anti-Nationalistic

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) expressed vehement disapproval of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s recent letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), denouncing it as an act of anti-nationalism.

Nawaz Sharif, upon his arrival at the Parliament House, joined by Shehbaz Sharif and Ayaz Sadiq, rebuked Imran Khan’s approach, categorizing the act of writing to the IMF as detrimental to national interests. Nawaz Sharif emphasized that such actions are indicative of Imran Khan’s policy and stance, equating it with anti-nationalistic sentiments.

Responding to questions regarding Imran Khan’s letter, Nawaz Sharif asserted that such actions could only be orchestrated by Imran Khan himself, underscoring the gravity of the situation. When pressed further about the implications of such actions, Nawaz Sharif urged individuals to draw their own conclusions regarding the anti-nationalistic nature of such correspondence.

Echoing Nawaz Sharif’s sentiments, Shehbaz Sharif, the PML-N nominee for Prime Minister, condemned Imran Khan’s letter to the IMF, labeling it as evidence of a deliberate intent to inflict harm upon the nation. Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Imran Khan’s actions indicate a desire to plunge the country into complete destruction, condemning the former PTI chairman’s conduct in the strongest terms.

Shehbaz Sharif lamented the unfortunate turn of events, asserting that regardless of political differences, no Pakistani should engage in activities that bring harm to the nation. He described Imran Khan’s letter as a saddening development, emphasizing the need for unity and patriotism above all else.

On the other hand, the caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed displeasure over the decision of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to write a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), calling it “extremely irresponsible.”

Speaking during a private TV talk show, he said that this letter was sent at a time when the incumbent government has visibly worked for economic recovery, with positive indicators regarding relevant references and various fiscal targets achieved.

He stated that negotiations worth $6 billion with the IMF are underway, which are extremely important for the country’s economic health. He further noted that various multifaceted agreements are also dependent on this.

Regarding electoral disputes, he mentioned that appropriate forums are available, and the PTI’s decision to write to the IMF is unwarranted and extremely irresponsible. However, he noted that in practical terms, the letter would have no impact, but it would hold political significance for the PTI.

PTI’s Letter to IMF:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conduct an audit of the disputed February 8 elections before engaging in additional bailout discussions with Islamabad.

With Pakistan’s economy facing challenges including inflation, currency devaluation, and dwindling reserves, PTI emphasizes the need for free and fair elections as a condition for IMF support. The party has formally communicated its stance to the IMF, reiterating commitments made during previous interactions, including a call for an audit of at least 30% of national and provincial assembly seats.

Despite PTI’s efforts, the IMF has not yet commented on the political situation in Pakistan or responded to the delegation’s requests.
