Election Rigging: Hafiz Naeem Announces Black Day Today

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has declared Friday as a black day to protest against the alleged election rigging that took place during the February 8 polls across the country.

During a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the JI Karachi Chief, announced the decision, stating that the February polls were the “worst ever” and that returning officers under pressure manipulated the results.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami received 800,000 votes in Karachi, whereas according to election form 45, MQM managed to win only 162,000 votes despite the rigging and fraud, and yet MQM was given 17 seats in the National Assembly and 20 in the Provincial Assembly.

Rehman mentioned that the coalition, including the MQM and others, faced a significant setback as the public overwhelmingly rejected them in the polls. He stated that the people of Karachi have rejected MQM. Those who have imposed it on the people of Karachi have promoted terrorism by empowering a party, that has a criminal record of extortion, and burning people alive in factories, and now they are being imposed upon us. Empowering such a party is extreme oppression.

Accusing those responsible for rigging of doing a disservice to Pakistan, Rehman emphasized the JI’s demands for the nullification of election results and a forensic audit of the entire electoral process to ensure transparency.

Furthermore, he stated that the JI would join the GDA’s protest and organize numerous demonstrations in the city to denounce the rigged elections as part of the black day observance.
