Hafiz Naeem Withdraws from PS-129 Seat, Affirms PTI-backed Candidate’s Win

Karachi: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi, has decided to withdraw from his seat in the Sindh Assembly, PS-129, acknowledging that the PTI-backed independent candidate had won the seat after securing more votes than him as per Form 45 results.

During a press briefing held in Karachi on Monday, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi, announced his decision to step down from his seat in the provincial assembly, PS-129 (Karachi). Rehman, who emerged victorious from the PS-129 seat in Karachi Central-VIII with 26,296 votes.

“I do not want a seat in charity. It should be given to the one who has the right to it,” he said.

Rehman stated that PTI-Backed independent candidate, Saif Bari, secured victory through legitimate means but had his votes allegedly slashed from 31,000 to 11,000.

Highlighting what he described as blatant manipulation, Rehman alleged that votes for the MQM were inflated from 6,000 to 20,000. He emphasized that such practices undermine the democratic process and called for immediate action to rectify the situation.

Hafiz Naeem announced his decision not to take the oath as a Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) on the seat, insisting that the PTI-affiliated candidate, as per Form 45, should be sworn in. He highlighted discrepancies in the vote count between Form 47 and Form 45, urging for transparent and accurate election results based on the latter.

During the briefing, Rehman passionately voiced his frustration, stating that his team meticulously examined Form 45 and uncovered significant discrepancies in the reported figures. He accused the Election Commission of Pakistan of reducing his vote count in Form 47 and giving seats won by Jamaat-e-Islami to MQM-P.

Naeem criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and condemned the MQM-P for celebrating what he termed as a “fake mandate.” He accused the MQM leaders, including Mustafa Kamal, of facing defeat but being declared winners.

Despite gracefully accepting his defeat, Rehman underscored his commitment to advocating for the rights of citizens through peaceful and lawful means. He urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to uphold transparency and fairness in electoral procedures, urging them to declare true winners based on official documents (Form-45).

In his closing remarks, Rehman appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to address the issue of election rigging, emphasizing the importance of upholding the democratic principles upon which the nation is built.
