Islamabad High Court Orders Police Not to Harass PTI Candidates and Workers

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has instructed the police not to harass the candidates and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This order was issued during the hearing of a petition that demanded the removal of barriers preventing the election campaign of PTI and to stop the harassment of its workers.

During the hearing presided over by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, PTI lawyers Shoaib Shaheen and Ali Bukhari highlighted instances of harassment faced by their party workers and leaders and sought permission to conduct the election campaign without obstacles. Shaheen informed Chief Justice Aamer Farooq that the police had detained PTI supporters, forcing them to leave the party.

He said that party workers were being coerced to switch allegiance and were threatened with legal action if they participated in rallies. Ali Bukhari asserted that threats are being issued to PTI polling agents to stay away.

Justice Aamer Farooq underscored the gravity of the situation, stating that picking up individuals arbitrarily is unacceptable. He summoned senior police officials, directing them to refrain from such actions or face further action from the court. Subsequently, Chief Justice Farooq directed the authorities to refrain from harassing PTI workers.
