Islamabad: During the hearing of the unlawful marriage case, PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment each.
The case revolving around a plea filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, who denounced the marriage between Khan and Bibi as both un-Islamic and unlawful, nearly 14 hours after the proceedings, Judge Qudrat Ullah announced the verdict on the marriage case during the ‘iddah’ period, in which the judge issued orders for the accused to appear. Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, and his wife Bushra Bibi were presented in front of the court on this occasion.
During the proceedings of the marriage during ‘iddah’ case, Bushra Bibi’s former husband Khawar Maneka, their employee Latif, Mufti Saeed, and witness Aun Chaudhry, along with other witnesses, had given detailed statements. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi also recorded their statements under section 342.
Khawar Maneka, in his petition, asserted that the nikah between Bushra Bibi and Khan was “fraudulent,” conducted during her iddah period following her divorce with him. The petition accused the former prime minister of adversely affecting Maneka’s life, alleging that Khan stigmatized him and his family to achieve “unethical and immoral objectives” by interfering in Maneka’s peaceful marital life.
The court, taking cognizance of the allegations, upon proving the offense of unlawful marriage, the court sentenced both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 7 years imprisonment each. The court also imposed fines of 500,000 lakh rupees on both. The court mentioned that the detailed verdict of the unlawful marriage case will be issued later while delivering the brief judgment.
