Sabotage of Elections Will Not Be Allowed, Vows Pakistan Army

Rawalpindi: The country’s military leadership, in the 262nd Corps Commanders’ Conference, held at General Headquarters (GHQ) unequivocally stated that no one will be allowed to sabotage the process of peaceful and fair elections or engage in violent activities under the guise of political activism.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the 262nd Corps Commanders’ Conference, presided by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, started by first paying tributes to the martyrs of armed forces, officers and soldiers, law enforcement agencies, and civilians who sacrificed their lives to ensure peace and security in the country.

The conference discussed the deployment of the Pakistan Army to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the General Elections 2024. The army will perform its assigned duties as per the Constitutional mandate and ECP guidelines. The forum underscored that “No one would be allowed to indulge in violence in the name of political activity and sabotage the quintessential democratic exercise of conduct of free and fair elections.”

Addressing the strategic importance of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, COAS General Syed Asim Munir asserted that these aspects are sacrosanct and inviolable. While emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful co-existence with all states, he made it clear that there would be no compromise over the nation’s sovereignty, national honor, and the aspirations of the Pakistani people.

The conference also addressed regional concerns, particularly the callous Indian campaign of extra-territorial and extra-judicial killings. The forum condemned India’s blatant violation of international laws and called for exposing its real face to the world. The international community’s serious concerns over India’s criminal behavior and the use of state apparatus for state-sponsored terrorism were highlighted.

During the Corps Commanders’ Conference, a decision was made that Pakistan would counter with full force the terrorists, their facilitators, and those who boost their morale to destabilize the country based on the signals of hostile forces.

Expressing unequivocal support for Palestine, the forum recognized the negative fallout of the conflict and its potential to spill over into the wider region. The need for a permanent ceasefire and an enduring solution to the Palestinian question was unanimously acknowledged. Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for their right to self-determination was reiterated, pledging continued moral, political, and diplomatic support until justice is served in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions.

Acknowledging and appreciating steps taken against illegal activities and criminal mafias, including smuggling, hoarding, money laundering, power theft, and illegal aliens, the forum emphasized the need for such actions to continue without any let-up due to their positive impact on the economy and the well-being of the people.

The conference concluded with a briefing on the operational preparedness of the formations, with COAS General Syed Asim Munir urging formation commanders to maintain focus on the training, administration, and morale of the soldiers.
