Following New Coronavirus JN.1 Variant Cases, 11-Member Committee Formed to Combat the Virus

Karachi: Following the confirmation of the Coronavirus JN.1 variant in 2 more incoming travelers at the Jinnah International Airport, the Sindh Health Department has established an 11-member provincial task force to combat the viral disease.

According to the spokesperson of the Sindh Health Department, a 28-year-old resident of Faisalabad and a 25-year-old resident of Gulbahar Malakand arrived in Karachi from Jeddah. Both travelers underwent tests based on possible symptoms of COVID-19, and the results turned out to be positive.

As per details, out of the 17 travelers arriving from abroad so far, have tested positive for rapid antigen. Among the 15 positive PCR cases, 2 passengers were found to be positive for the new JN.1 variant of coronavirus. The Health Department has advised the affected travelers to quarantine after informing them of the test results.

Following this, the Sindh Health Department, under the leadership of DG Health Sindh, Dr. Waqar Mehmood, has formed an 11-member task force. The task force will include experts from the medical field.

The 11-member task force will provide daily reports to the Sindh Health Minister, formulate an emergency action plan to combat COVID-19 and prepare a standard operating procedure for the prevention and control of the viral disease.

Medical experts suggest that the new variant of the Coronavirus is not as potent as the original strain, but they appeal to the public to adopt precautionary measures to prevent possible spread.
