Islamabad: The government is once again planning to increase the electricity price by PKR 5.62 per unit in Pakistan.
According to reports, once again preparations are underway to unleash the avalanche of inflation on electricity consumers in the country. With this proposed increase of PKR 5.62, consumers are expected to bear an additional burden of over 49 billion collectively.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a fuel charges adjustment (FCA), and NEPRA is set to hear it on January 31. The CPPA has sought an increase as per the FCA for December. According to the request, in December, 7 billion 41 crore 80 lakh units of electricity were generated.
Earlier, at the beginning of this month, NEPRA had approved an increase of PKR 4.12 per unit in electricity prices in response to CPPA’s request. The increase in electricity prices was requested in line with the fuel charges adjustment for November. The CPPA had sought an increase of PKR 4.66 in the fuel price adjustment.
