Member of Israeli Parliament Supports the ICJ Genocide Charges Against Israel

Islamabad: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is preparing to hear South Africa’s ‘Genocide’ case against Israel for its relentless attacks and bombardment in Gaza that has left over 23,000 Palestinians dead.  An Israeli lawmaker Ofer Cassif, of the left-wing Hadash-Ta’al party, has declared his support for the genocide charge against Israel.

Cassif, a member of the Israeli Parliament’s left-wing Hadash-Ta’al party, announced that he would support the legal action against the Israeli government as an “act of true patriotism.” He stated in a release, “My constitutional duty is to Israeli society and all of its residents, not to a government whose members and its coalition are calling for ethnic cleansing and even actual genocide.”

He emphasized that it is the Israeli government which has caused harm to the country is responsible for the cases filed by South Africa.

“They are the ones who hurt the country and the people, they are the ones who led South Africa to turn to The Hague, not me and my friends. And when the government acts against society, the state and its citizens, especially when it sacrifices them and commits crimes in their name on the altar of maintaining its existence, it is my right and even my duty to warn about this and do everything I can within the law to stop it.”, he said.

Cassif added that he would strive to make Israel a “moral society” and commented, “I will not give up the fight for our existence as a moral society. This is the true patriotism – no revenge wars and calls for extermination, no unnecessary bloodshed, and no sacrifice of kidnapped citizens and soldiers in false wars”.

Following his remarks, more than seventy members of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) signed a motion on Monday to support the expulsion of Cassif.

It is worth mentioning that South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel on December 29 for the actions in Gaza, alleging that they constitute war crimes and genocide. The hearing is set to begin on January 11 in The Hague.

It is noteworthy that since the beginning of Israeli aggression in Gaza on October 7, the Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of nearly 23,357, including around 10,000 children and 7,000 women, and 59,410 Palestinians have been injured severely, and more than 8,000 Palestinians have been missing. According to UNICEF,  more than 10 children a day lose one or both legs in Gaza due to Israeli attacks.

Among those martyred in Israeli bombings in Gaza, there are 606 members of medical staff and 112 journalists. Additionally, more than 40 personnel from the Civil Defense have also lost their lives.

In the last 24 hours, Israel has killed at least 147 Palestinians. Moreover, since October 7 Israel has arrested 5,755 Palestinians including 190 women and 335 children.

Furthermore, 70% infrastructure in Gaza has been either destroyed or damaged in Israeli attacks and over 2 million people or 85% population of the Gaza Strip have been displaced out of its total population of 2.3 million. The UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths has said that “Gaza has simply become uninhabitable”

Since October 7, Israel has carried out 600 attacks on hospitals and medical infrastructure, killing 616 people within the healthcare facilities of whom 606 were in Gaza and 7 in the West Bank.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, at least 340 Palestinians killed by Israel including more than 84 children while 4,000 have been injured.
