Manila: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 has occurred near the coast of Southern Philippines. No tsunami alert has been issued.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake had a depth of 70 kilometers and its epicenter was located 100 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Province.
The USGS reports that no tsunami alert was issued after the earthquake, and there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage.
Harly Sauro, a disaster official in Sarangani municipality, affirmed that the quake did not result in any harm or damage but acknowledged that it disrupted some people’s sleep. Earthquakes are a common occurrence in the Philippines, given its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, known for intense seismic and volcanic activity.
It is noteworthy that while the majority of earthquakes in the region are too weak to be felt, last month, a more potent 7.6-magnitude quake off Mindanao briefly triggered a tsunami warning, leading to at least three reported deaths.
