According to details, in an open letter addressed to the Australian Prime Minister, the Alliance of Australian Muslims (AAM), representing over 200 Muslim organizations, has called for unequivocal support for South Africa’s recent proceedings to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel. The letter, dated January 15, 2024, highlights the violations by Israel under the Genocide Convention concerning Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The AAM emphasizes the urgency of acknowledging Israel’s actions as “genocidal,” citing intentional acts and omissions aimed at destroying Palestinians in Gaza. The letter underscores Israel’s failure to prevent genocide and has failed to prosecute the direct and public incitement to genocide, and ongoing engagement in genocidal acts against the Palestinian population.
Drawing parallels to Australia’s stance on the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the AAM urges the Australian government to fulfill its moral and humanitarian obligation by supporting South Africa’s ICJ proceedings. The letter asserts that Israel’s indiscriminate bombing and military actions, widely regarded as ethnic cleansing and war crimes, demand international attention and scrutiny.
