Thar Foundation Transforming Lives of Millions in Tharparkar

Karachi: Thar Foundation, along with other companies working in Thar Block II, unveiled the “Portrait of Thar 2.0” campaign in a ceremony held at the Karachi Press Club. The initiative aims to inspire the spirits and hard work of Thar residents, fostering development within the region.

Thar Foundation is the CSR wing of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC). Prioritizing key areas under the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Thar Block II, such as poverty alleviation, sustainable economic provision, healthcare, enhanced educational accessibility, and promoting gender equality, the foundation is contributing to the progress.

For standardized education, the Thar Foundation has established a network of 23 school units within Thar under SDG 4. Currently, over 5,000 students are enrolled in these school units in Mithi, Islamkot, and surrounding villages, with approximately 56% female teachers.

Amir Iqbal, CEO of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company and Thar Foundation, stated that Thar Foundation is silently revolutionizing on a massive scale through the assistance of Thar’s population. After providing equal opportunities for education, vocational training, and economic opportunities through employment, these individuals are becoming unsung heroes shaping the present and future of the community and the country.

The “Portrait of Thar 2.0” campaign sheds light on the extraordinary efforts of four exceptional leaders—Hothi Ram, Gudi, Nehal Chand, and Jawahar Lal—who have played a significant role in bringing positive change.

Hothi Ram’s promotion from a laborer to a godown supervisor in the village of New Senhri Dars reflects unwavering determination. Nehal Chand’s relentless efforts as a community mobilizer have empowered his village, bringing about positive transformations. Gudi’s journey to health after a severe spinal injury illustrates unparalleled resilience. Jawahar Lal’s dedication to education has led to an educational revolution, from being a teacher to becoming a principal in Kharo Jani.

These heroes, alongside countless others, serve as examples of leadership, working as influential role models to illuminate the path of progress in Thar.
