Misuse of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Crime Storm Expected in 2024

Washington: Technology experts have warned that the misuse of artificial intelligence will lead to a cybercrime storm in 2024.

According to news agencies, Shawn Henry the Chief Security Officer of CrowdStrike, an American cybersecurity and technology company, expressed his views and concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence during the CBS Mornings program on Tuesday.

He stated that individuals proficient in online crime and negative activities are creating a cybercrime storm by improperly using artificial intelligence. He mentioned that misleading information can target various sectors, including the corporate sector, around the world.

Henry underscored the importance of verifying the source of information and cautioned against accepting online content without scrutiny. With 2024 being an election year for various nations, including the U.S., Mexico, South Africa, Taiwan, and India, Henry highlighted that the very essence of democracy is at stake. He pointed out the risk of cybercriminals exploiting political turmoil through the use of AI.

An ex-official of the FBI, the American research agency, revealed that those engaged in online crimes, through the negative use of artificial intelligence, can spread falsehoods or propaganda, leading users astray and gaining access to sensitive information, potentially causing harm.

This warning from the cybersecurity veteran comes at a time when artificial intelligence is being employed more than ever in various fields, with both the federal and state governments of the United States also involved. The U.S. federal government has initiated the use of artificial intelligence in 27 sectors.
