Abu Dhabi: The rulers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have earned the distinction of being the wealthiest family globally.
According to a report by the American media outlet ‘Bloomberg,’ the ruling Al Nahyan family of Abu Dhabi has surpassed the Walton family of the United States, making it the wealthiest family in the world.
This is the first instance in the last five years that a family, other than the heirs of Walmart, has claimed the title of the world’s wealthiest.
The report reveals that the current ruling Al Nahyan family holds the top position on the list with a total wealth of $305 billion. This marks the first time in the last five years that a family other than the owners of Walmart (Walton family) has claimed the title of the world’s wealthiest.
As per Bloomberg, the Walton family secures the second position with a wealth of $259.7 billion, and the third spot is held by the French owners of the luxury fashion house Hermès, with a wealth of $150.9 billion. The American Mars family known for pet products is fourth with a wealth of $141.9 billion, followed by the royal Al Thani family of Qatar in fifth place with a combined wealth of approximately $133 billion.
The owners of the American Koch Industries are in sixth place with $127.3 billion, the Saudi Arabian Al Saud royal family is seventh with $112 billion, the Ambani family, owners of Reliance Industries in India, is eighth with a wealth of $89.9 billion, the French owners of the luxury fashion house LVMH are ninth, and the media house owners Thomson Reuters in Canada secure the tenth spot.
The report places the French owners of the luxury fashion house Chanel, the Wertheimer family, in ninth place, with a wealth of $89.6 billion, while in tenth place are the media house owners Thomson Reuters in Canada, the Rogers family, with a wealth of $71.1 billion.
According to the report, among the world’s wealthiest families, eight are from the United States, four from France, three from Germany, and one each from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, India, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Indonesia, Italy, and Hong Kong.
