Tokyo: Japanese experts have created a flying dragon robot for firefighting in incidents of conflagration.
According to official news agencies, researchers in robotics have devised a new robot (fire-fighting hose) for extinguishing fires. This robot utilizes water pressure, flying, and self-navigation to determine its direction.
Developed by scientists at Osaka University in Japan and Akita Prefectural University, the flying dragon system incorporates two four-nozzle thruster units installed on both sides. These units operate like a quadcopter and control the flow of water and thrust direction using nozzles placed in every nozzle and servos (an actuator that can rotate a nozzle in any direction), allowing it to lift, maintain balance, and determine direction like a regular drone.
Regarding the flying dragon, it is mentioned that it delivers water at a rate of 6.6 liters per second, generating a pressure of up to 1 mega-pascal. This pressure is sufficient to lift the hose from the ground to two meters. The model is four meters long and connected to a small control station trolley where an operator stands and operates the drone.
The operator, using regular and thermal vision cameras mounted on the dragon’s head, assesses the situation and ensures effective water discharge where needed. The flying dragon serves as a versatile solution for firefighting in areas with high demand.
