Australia Wins Series After Defeating Pakistan by 79 Runs in Melbourne Test

Melbourne: Australia once again dominated the Pakistan national team, securing victory in the Boxing Day Test and winning the series.

In the Melbourne Test (the second match of the series), chasing Australia’s target of 317 runs, the entire Pakistan team was dismissed for 237 runs in the second innings, facing a defeat by 79 runs against the Kangaroos.

Opening with Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq, the Pakistani team did not have a strong start. Abdullah Shafique managed to score only 8 runs before being caught by Usman Khawaja off Mitchell Starc’s delivery, leaving Pakistan at 4 runs for 1 wicket.

Imam-ul-Haq soon too fell victim to Pat Cummins after scoring 12 runs. Later, despite aggressive batting by Captain Shan Masood, who scored 60 runs facing 71 balls, he got caught out by Steve Smith off Pat Cummins’ delivery.

Babar Azam, the former captain, failed to make a significant contribution, getting bowled out by Josh Hazlewood after scoring 41 runs. Saud Shakeel added 24 runs before getting out by Mitchell Starc, and Mohammad Rizwan and Amir Jamal scored 35 and 0 runs, respectively, both falling prey to Pat Cummins.

Salman Ali Agha played a crucial innings of 50 runs, but Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mir Hamza both got out without scoring any runs. At the end of Pakistan’s second innings, collapsed at a total of 237 runs, losing the match and series by 79 runs.

Pakistan’s Squad for the Melbourne Test: For the Melbourne Test match, Pakistan made three changes, including Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, and Mir Hamza in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, and Khurram Shahzad. Captain Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Shahin Afridi, and Amir Jamal remained part of the squad.
