NEPRA Ready to Give Another Electric Shock: Possibility of Increase in Electricity Price by Rs. 4.66 per Unit

Islamabad: Electricity consumers may face a looming high-voltage shock as the cost of electricity is poised to surge by Rs. 4.66 per unit, adding strain to an already burdened inflation landscape.

According to details, the request to increase electricity prices by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) will be heard by NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) tomorrow.

Sources indicate that the increase is sought in the backdrop of November’s fuel price adjustment and adjustments in remaining expenditures. If approved, electricity consumers may face an additional burden of over Rs. 36 billion.

According to the request, during November, electricity production from water remained at 36.5%, nuclear contributed to more than 20% of electricity production, local coal contributed to 13% of electricity production in one month, and income coal contributed to over 6% of electricity production in November.

The request mentioned that during one month, electricity production through LNG remained at 10.6%, and local gas contributed 9.2% to electricity production.
