Rawalpindi: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, participated in the Christmas celebrations with the Christian community at Christ Church, Rawalpindi. The congregation warmly welcomed the COAS, expressing gratitude for his presence during the festive occasion.
During the event, COAS General Asim Munir extended his heartfelt wishes of Merry Christmas to the entire Christian community in Pakistan. Emphasizing the importance of religious harmony, he underscored the need for promoting greater interfaith understanding in society, aligning with Quaid’s true vision of a united and progressive Pakistan.
COAS General Asim Munir highlighted the teachings of Islam, stating, “Islam teaches us the lesson of peace, friendship, and encourages interfaith harmony, which is the need of the hour.” He stressed the significance of cultivating correct perspectives, truth, and knowledge-based opinions to address complex national issues, cautioning against the influence of rhetoric and propaganda.
Expressing concern over external threats, COAS General Asim Munir stated, “Enemies of Pakistan are hell-bent towards creating fissures using religious, ethnic, and political vulnerabilities. We have to stand together and united to rise as a resolute and strong nation.”
On the occasion of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s 147th birthday, COAS General Asim Munir paid tribute to the visionary leader and quoted Quaid’s historical remarks from his speech on August 11, 1947, addressing the Constituent Assembly, “You are free. You are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan.”
COAS General Asim Munir acknowledged and appreciated the significant contributions and sacrifices made by the entire Christian community of Pakistan across various fields and domains. The celebration at Christ Church marked a symbol of unity and respect for diverse religious communities in the country.
