Karachi: A major tragedy was averted when police and railway authorities revealed that a bomb was discovered in one of the compartments of the Awam Express train destined for Karachi on Friday.
According to details, a suspicious bag, containing switches and wires, was spotted beneath seats 71 and 72 in coach number 5 of the Awam Express train arriving from Peshawar to Karachi.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately summoned, and during the search of the bag, an improvised explosive device (IED) was found.
Upon receiving the information, DIG South Asad Raza and SSP Railways Shaukat Khatian, along with the Bomb Disposal Unit, rushed to the scene.
DIG South Asad Raza disclosed that the bomb contained 13 kilograms of explosive material. He further informed that the Bomb Disposal Unit successfully defused the bomb.
SSP Railways Shaukat Khatian stated that prompt action was taken, preventing the train from potential devastation.
