Islamabad: Indus Motors has officially launched the first hybrid electric car manufactured in Pakistan. According to details, Indus Motors introduced the first Made-in-Pakistan hybrid car during the 7th Annual Auto Summit.
The CEO of Indus Motors, Asghar Ali Jamali, stated that the 1800cc hybrid Corolla Cross, with a 50% production rate in Pakistan, has been developed, and it took three years for electric cars to be produced in Pakistan. Experts believe that electric motorcycles will be introduced rapidly in the initial phase in Pakistan, with 31 companies having obtained licenses for e-motorcycles.
CEO Asghar Ali Jamali of Indus Motors mentioned that under the Auto Policy 2021-2026, they have initiated work on exporting cars. Negotiations are underway on preferential trade agreements for car exports with various countries. He added that cars are expensive in Pakistan due to heavy government taxes, with the government imposing taxes ranging from 35% to 57% on different models. Introducing non-driver cars in Pakistan faces obstacles.
CEO Asghar Ali Jamali of Indus Motors further commented that it will take an additional two years for the auto sector to overcome the crisis. An increase in production and purchases of cars is expected in the coming years.
