Islamabad: Two human rights organizations, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Amnesty International’s South Asia and Regional Offices, have voiced their reservations over the detention of Baloch protesters, who were taken into custody during protests for allegedly pelting stones at police officers on Wednesday.
In separate statements, these organizations expressed their concerns over the ongoing situation. The Pakistan Human Rights Commission posted on Twitter, condemning the severe crackdown on Baloch protesters in Islamabad. The incident involved the unwarranted use of force, targeting women, children, and the elderly through the use of water cannons and batons.
“HRCP strongly condemns the violent police crackdown on Baloch protestors in Islamabad, with women, children, and the elderly subjected to unwarranted force in the form of water cannons and use of batons. Numerous women protestors have reportedly been arrested and separated from their male relatives and allies. This treatment of Baloch citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly is inexcusable. It also reflects how little the state thinks of the protesters’ demand that their right to life and liberty be upheld. All those detained must be released unconditionally. Once again, we urgently call on the government to organize a delegation to meet the protesters and give their legitimate demands a fair hearing.”, HRCP stated.

Islamabad police stated that they arrested several protesters after they resorted to pelting stones. They further mentioned that actions would be taken according to the law against those blocking roads.
The police urged people not to be part of any unlawful gatherings or violent protests. They emphasized the use of force to keep women and children away from violent demonstrations.
