Islamabad: Adding to the woes of citizens already burdened by inflation, NEPRA has approved an increase of Rs. 1.15 per unit in electricity tariff for consumers nationwide, including in Karachi.
The increase in electricity prices will take effect from January 1, 2024. According to this adjustment, the price of electricity has been raised by Rs. 1.15 per unit, resulting in an overall additional burden of Rs. 22.29 billion on consumers.
The hike in electricity prices will be applicable to electricity consumers across the country, including the domestic sector, during the three-month adjustment period (January to March).
The decision regarding the increase in electricity prices has been issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) after its approval, and a summary has been sent to the government for final approval. The implementation will take place after the government’s formal approval.
