Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested the former Chairman of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), Sheikh Akhtar Hussain, on charges of possessing a fake degree and involvement in corruption.
The FIA arrested Sheikh Akhtar after the revocation of his bail. The FIA Court Central, under Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, nullified Sheikh Akhtar’s bail before arrest.
According to the FIA, Sheikh Akhtar, the former DRAP Chairman, is accused of corruption involving 2.5 billion rupees. The spokesperson for the Federal Investigation Agency stated that Sheikh Akhtar Hussain obtained his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan based on a fake degree.
The spokesperson further explained that the degree presented by the accused for employment was found to be fraudulent during the investigation. Sheikh Akhtar served as the CEO of DRAP during 2018 and 2019, and an inquiry into his appointment has been initiated by the FIA.
