Sara Inam Murder Case: Shahnawaz Amir Sentenced to Death with a Fine of 1 Million

Islamabad: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has sentenced the main accused, Shahnawaz Amir, in the Sara Inam murder case to death along with a fine of 1 million.

The decision in the case was reserved by District and Sessions Court Judge Nasir Javed on December 9.

During the last hearing of the case, Samina Shah’s (the accused’s mother) lawyer, Nisar Asghar, argued that there was no evidence proving Samina Shah’s involvement in the murder. He requested the court to release his client after the completion of the trial.

Canadian citizen Sara Inam was allegedly murdered by her husband Shahnawaz Amir on September 24, 2022, in Islamabad. The accused, Shahnawaz Amir, is the son of the renowned journalist Ayaz Amir. He was arrested on September 23 last year.

Subsequently, Shahnawaz was remanded to judicial custody. On December 5, 2022, an individual charge was filed in the murder case.

The initial informational report under Section 302 (intentional murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered on September 23, 2022.

When the police entered the house, Shahnawaz had locked himself in a room. According to the FIR, the police forcibly entered the room and subdued him, noting that his shirt and hands were stained with blood.

In September, Sara’s father, during a press conference, demanded an expedited hearing of the case against the accused.
