Heavy Rains Worsen the Hardships of Gaza Residents; Spread of Infectious Diseases Begins

Occupied Jerusalem: Following the destruction caused by continuous bombings by Israel, the difficulties for the people of Gaza have intensified with torrential rains, exacerbating the already challenging conditions. Palestinian residents, accustomed to enduring conditions like a minor apocalypse, are now facing the spread of infectious diseases.

According to Arab media, due to the ongoing aggression and bombings by the occupying forces, a significant number of Palestinians, rendered homeless, have sought refuge in camps, where the entry of rainwater has further worsened their situation.

The lack of proper facilities in the tents, overcrowding, and inadequate sewage management have led to deteriorating conditions. The spread of infectious diseases has raised concerns about the worsening health situation.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that infectious diseases are spreading in Gaza. Due to Israeli aggression, 1.9 million people in Gaza are now homeless, with 360,000 individuals affected by infectious diseases. On the other hand, a report from the United Nations agency states that those affected in Gaza by Israeli aggression are suffering from diseases such as typhoid fever, chickenpox, jaundice, and other illnesses.

Videos from Gaza have gone viral on social media showing the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. One video shows A Palestinian man carrying the body of a Palestinian girl in flooded streets who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Jabalia. The challenge of burying the dead has intensified due to the inclement weather characterized by heavy rains and strong winds.

The United Nations reports a dire situation in southern Gaza, where displaced populations face “catastrophic circumstances.” Long queues form around distribution centers as people wait for meager supplies of water, food, and medical aid. Disease is rampant in unsanitary conditions, exacerbated by the rain and flooding. The UN humanitarian agency emphasizes the urgent need for essential provisions such as food, water, shelter, health services, and protection. The lack of adequate latrines raises concerns about the further spread of diseases, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

The World Health Organization’s Doctors Without Borders has likened the condition of hospitals in Gaza affected by Israeli aggression to a state of war similar to World War I.
