Islamabad: A civil court in Islamabad has officially declared the case alleging an illegal marriage against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his current wife, Bushra Bibi, as admissible.
The court issued notices to all parties involved, including Bushra Bibi, invoking Section 496-B. The court has summoned her to appear in person on December 14, the next scheduled hearing date.
Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s former husband, filed the petition, claiming that the marriage was illegal and violated Sharia laws. During the hearing, Maneka and his lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, appeared in court to present their case.
After deliberating on the admissibility of the case, the senior civil judge reserved his decision, ultimately declaring the case admissible. The court then issued notices to all parties for the hearing on December 14 under Section 496-B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to the fornication clause in Pakistani law, carrying a maximum penalty of five years in jail and a fine of Rs10,000.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been accused of marrying within the three-month iddat period following a divorce. Maneka has also accused them of fornication.
