Paris: Due to the spread of bird flu in France, Germany, Belgium, and other European countries, millions of chickens to be culled worldwide.
According to foreign health agencies, information has surfaced about an extensive outbreak of bird flu on a poultry farm in the northwestern part of Belgium, a European Union country. The outbreak occurred near the city of Dixmude, on the border of France, resulting in the death of 95 birds.
To contain the situation, experts culled 20,100 chickens on the affected farm. Prior to this, in France, another poultry farm had confirmed cases of bird flu, leading to the culling of chickens.
Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu spreads through droppings and nasal discharges of wild birds.
Last week, after the dangerous virus spread on a farm in the city of Brandenburg, Germany, health experts culled 11,500 chickens.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the culling of over of 1.35 million chickens in Ohio’s Union County to contain the spread of the highly contagious virus following the confirmation of a case within the flock this week.
In recent years, hundreds of millions of were culled worldwide to contain bird flu. In 2022 alone, about 58 million birds were killed during the outbreak. The highly contagious virus is spread easily by wild birds through droppings and nasal discharges.
