Tokyo: Britain has won the litter-picking World Cup in Tokyo.
According to international media, the “Spogomi World Cup,” held in Japan, saw the participation of 21 teams from around the world. In the competition, each team from every country consisted of three members who had to collect as much trash as they could over two sessions from the streets in 90 minutes.
According to reports, the term “Spogomii” is a combination of the English word “sports” and the Japanese word “gomi,” meaning trash. The report also mentioned that the purpose of organizing this interesting competition was to raise awareness about environmental issues.
The British team, “The North Will Rise Again,” secured the World Cup by defeating the host Japanese team. The British team collected 57.27 kilograms of waste, earning a score of 9046.1 points.
Teams from countries like Australia and Brazil also took on the challenge of collecting waste for 90 minutes in the streets of Shibuya and Omotesando.
After the victory, Captain Sarah Perry of the British team said it was truly a good experience. Due to Japan’s high standards of cleanliness, the teams participating in the competition faced challenges in finding waste.
