Havana: President Miguel Díaz-Canel of Cuba led a large protest march in support of Palestinians.
President Díaz-Canel, accompanied by his wife Lis Cuesta Peraza and senior government officials, headed the procession. The demonstrators, waving Palestinian flags, criticized the United States for supporting Israel.
Cuba’s Ministry of Interior had earlier stated that around 100,000 people participated in the hour-long march. The appeal for the march was organized by the Communist Party’s youth organization in the country.
Kristina Díaz, a 22-year-old physics student at the University of Havana, participating in the march, expressed the desire of the youth to stop the attacks on Palestine.
She further emphasized, “It is wrong to think of this as a war. It is genocide”.
Demonstrators, passing by the U.S. Embassy, also chanted slogans against America, with participants in the march shouting, ‘Fascist Yankees, you are terrorists!’.
