Babar Azam Resigns: PCB Appoints Shaheen as T20 Captain, Shan Masood as Test Captain

Lahore: Following Pakistan’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign, renowned Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam has announced his resignation from the captaincy of the national cricket team. He stated that, as a player, he will continue to represent Pakistan in all formats.

After Babar Azam’s resignation, Shaheen Afridi has been appointed the captain of the T20 team, while Shan Masood has been appointed the Test team captain. The announcement of the captain for the One Day International matches will be made later.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohammad Hafeez has been assigned the role of team director. All coaching staff of the Pakistan Cricket Board have been removed from their roles, and changes are being made in their responsibilities. The coaching staff for the Australia and New Zealand tours will be announced soon.

Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the chief selector, and the PCB has revamped the entire coaching staff’s portfolio, with all coaches continuing their work at the National Cricket Academy.

Babar Azam, tweeting on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), expressed gratitude to fans and the PCB for providing him with the opportunity to be the Pakistan cricket team’s captain. He mentioned that achieving the top position in the White Ball format under his captaincy was the result of the efforts of the coaches and management. “I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience,” said Babar.
