Perth: With the collaboration of NRMA Insurance, a new era has begun in Western Australia’s cricket. Cricket Australia (CA) has decided that every Test match played at Perth Stadium will now be called the ‘The West Test.’ which will apply to the Test series between Australia and Pakistan from 14th December to 18th December. the first Test Match of the 2023 summer will see Pakistan facing Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
The second match of the series will be called the Boxing Day Test, which will be played from December 26 to December 30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, while the third will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3, 2024 to January 7, 202
In addition to the new nomenclature, CA has launched an exciting in-stadium experience inspired by the legendary WACA ‘The West Test Hill.’ A special hill named ” The West Hill ” is being built in Perth Stadium to provide the best atmosphere and view to cricket fans. ‘The West Test Hill’ will comprise three tiers and will accommodate up to 500 spectators simultaneously. It will encompass a family-friendly area complete with games for children and shaded seating sections, creating a perfect atmosphere for fans to unwind while enjoying the Test match in summer.
Moreover, to ensure a seamless connection between men’s and women’s cricket and Test matches at the state’s two venues, the CommBank Women’s International Series Test match between Australia and South Africa will also carry the ‘The West Test’ branding.
Joel Morrison, General Manager of Events & Operations at Cricket Australia, emphasized that Perth has consistently been a cricketing highlight during the Australian summer. He believes that ‘The West Test’ will elevate this experience by combining top-tier cricket action with fantastic in-stadium opportunities, especially on ‘The Hill,’ with the generous support of NRMA Insurance.
Morrison expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “International cricket in Perth has always been one of the great events of the Australian summer. ‘The West Test’ will take this to another level by combining world-class on-field action with brilliant fan experiences within the stadium”.
He also acknowledged the renewed rivalry between Australia and Pakistan, which gained momentum following Australia’s long-awaited tour to Pakistan last year. This rekindled rivalry adds to the excitement as the summer kicks off with men’s international cricket.
Christina Matthews, CEO of WA Cricket, anticipates that ‘The West Test’ will provide Western Australians with something unique to take pride in. She looks forward to collaborating with Cricket Australia and all partners in the game to further develop ‘The West Test’ event as they approach series against India and England in the coming years.
Furthermore, Cricket Australia has also introduced multi-lingual services for cricket fans and now all Urdu-speaking cricket fans can enjoy reading the latest cricket updates in Urdu on their website.
