According to details, the recent inflation across the country has pushed construction materials beyond the reach of the general public. Prices of cement, steel bars, bricks, and sand are reaching new heights.
Due to the rising prices, cement bags are now priced at PKR 1,200, steel bars at PKR 270 per kilogram, bricks at PKR 15,000 per thousand, and gravel at PKR 125 per cubic foot. Even the cost of a truckload of sand has reached PKR 18,000.
On the other hand, because of the unprecedented price hikes, many people have postponed their construction projects. Consequently, the labor class is severely affected as work opportunities are diminishing.
Furthermore, laborers have also demanded an increase in wages in response to these soaring prices, while contractors and masons are also negotiating for higher fees.
