Doha: The Qatari court has handed down the death penalty to 8 former Indian Navy officers who were found guilty of spying for Israel.
According to media reports, Qatari courts have sentenced 8 Indian Navy officers to death after proving their involvement in spying activities for Israel. Following this development, the Indian Foreign Minister has stated that the matter will be taken up at the diplomatic level after the details of the verdict are made public.
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that after hearing about the death sentence of the 8 Indian nationals working in a Qatari firm, they are deeply shocked and Once the detailed verdict from the Qatari courts is available, they will take all necessary legal actions.
It should be noted that these former Indian Navy officers were arrested in 2022 for spying on behalf of Israel against Qatar. Subsequently, legal proceedings were initiated against them, and during this time, the arrested officers were given the opportunity to defend themselves.
Indian agencies have continuously provided assistance to the arrested officers, while the spying officers were involved in a sensitive project related to micro-submarines in Al Dahra company.
According to the report, the convicted individuals include Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, commander Purnendu Tiwari, commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Rajesh Sharma.
It is worth noting that Pakistan had earlier arrested Kulbhushan Yadav an Indian Naval officer, for engaging in acts of terrorism in Pakistan, and India’s involvement in acts of terrorism in other countries has already become apparent to the world.
