In a report by Arab News, it has been revealed that gaming is playing a pivotal role in helping Saudi Arabia’s Generation Z secure their first jobs. According to a study conducted by YouTube and Censuswide, gaming has equipped Saudi youth with valuable skills like problem-solving, communication, and strategic thinking.
The research indicates that a staggering 87% of recruiters in the Kingdom are more inclined to hire individuals with a background in gaming. The survey underscores the importance of gaming in the country, where approximately 21 million gamers, or 58% of the population, are actively engaged in this pastime.
Saudi Arabia’s commitment to becoming a global gaming hub is evident. The Kingdom has already announced significant investments in this sector. Savvy Games Group, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, is set to inject SR142 billion ($37.8 billion) into initiatives aimed at positioning Saudi Arabia as a global gaming and esports hub by 2030.
YouTube’s study not only underscores the career benefits of gaming but also highlights that 63% of Saudi youth believe that gaming has given them the confidence to tackle professional challenges. Additionally, 70% of respondents credit gaming for enhancing their communication skills through interaction with fellow gamers on various platforms.
This research aligns with the growing recognition of the positive impact of gaming on skills development, as noted in the book “Graduate Skills and Game-Based Learning” by Matthew Barr, a senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
Good communication, problem-solving, and staying calm under pressure were identified as valuable skills by recruiters when considering candidates for entry-level roles. While gaming has undoubtedly become a powerful tool for skill enhancement, only 38% of respondents said they would include their gaming hobbies on their CVs.
The report concludes that gaming not only entertains but also empowers Saudi youth, offering them valuable skills for their future careers. Arab News highlights the importance of this study in recognizing the positive influence of gaming in the professional realm.
