Islamabad: In order to further burden the public, the government has increased electricity rates by imposing additional charges on consumers.

According to media reports, after the federal government’s approval, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification regarding the fuel adjustment and approved an increase of Rs. 3.28 per unit in electricity rates for the upcoming billing month.

This increase will impose an additional burden of Rs. 159 billion on electricity consumers. The increase has been implemented as part of the fourth monthly adjustment for the fiscal year 2022/23.

In this regard, a notification has been issued instructing consumers to make additional payments for the next six months.
