Abdullah Khan Awarded Medal of the Order of Australia for Services to Education and Multiculturalism

Perth: Abdullah Khan, Executive Principal and CEO of Australian Islamic College, Perth, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on 5 September 2023 in recognition of his significant contributions to education and multiculturalism in Western Australia.

The prestigious honor was presented by the Governor of Western Australia, the Honorable Christopher John Dawson, during a ceremony at Government House.

Abdullah Khan was awarded the OAM for his more than 30 years of service to Islamic schooling and his advocacy for minority rights. As a leader in the Islamic education sector, he has worked tirelessly to foster intercultural understanding and inclusiveness in Perth’s diverse society.

In his roles as school principal and Chair of the Islamic Schools Association of Australia, Abdullah Khan has been instrumental in developing Islamic schools and creating opportunities for Muslim youth.

Beyond his contributions to education, Abdullah Khan has collaborated extensively with various cultural groups to promote social cohesion and harmony. He is regarded as a bridge-builder between communities.

Abdullah Khan expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying it reflects the collective achievements of Western Australia’s multicultural population.

The OAM is the highest civilian honor after the Companion of the Order, conferred for outstanding service and achievement. Abdullah Khan’s award demonstrates the high esteem in which he is held for his dedication to the people of Western Australia.
