Interim Government Prepares Relief Plan for Electricity Consumers

Islamabad: The interim government has prepared a plan to provide relief to electricity consumers.

The sources say that the caretaker government will provide a relief of 3,000 rupees to consumers using up to 300 units of electricity in the October electricity bills.

Similarly, it was reported that consumers whose electricity bills range from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 70,000 will benefit from a reduction of Rs. 13,000.

Furthermore, internal sources have disclosed that discussions are ongoing between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the interim government regarding providing relief to electricity consumers.

Private news outlets have reported that an international creditor based in Washington has requested additional information from the Power Division in order to make a decision regarding the various recommendations it has received for relief in the high bills for August and September.

“We have shared the required data with the Fund people hoping that IMF may today (Monday) come up with its response with a yes or no to the assertions of the Finance and Power Divisions, seeking permission for relief to inflation-stricken people in electricity bills,” some top sources engaged with the IMF said.
