Karachi: Just like across the country, the price of sugar is spiraling out of the common man’s reach in the city of Quaid as well. Sugar in Karachi has reached up to Rs. 175 per kilogram.
According to private TV channels, in the past few days, there has been an increase of up to Rs. 40 per kilogram in the wholesale price of sugar. As a result, the wholesale price of sugar has surged from Rs. 125 to Rs. 165 per kilogram. Similarly, there has been an increase of up to Rs. 40 per kilogram in the retail price, making it reach Rs. 175.
Reports suggest that after allowing sugar imports, sugar prices are being increased on a daily basis by the sugar mafia. These mafias have hoarded sugar in their warehouses, creating artificial shortages in the wholesale markets, which in turn has resulted in scarcity and price hikes for sugar.
