Karachi: In an unexpected twist, the official teaser of the much-anticipated movie “Rawalpindi Express – A Shoaib Akhtar Biopic” has been unveiled amidst an ongoing legal dispute between the film’s subject and its creators.
The film’s protagonist, Gohar Rasheed, who has taken up the lead role, marks a significant development after singer Umair Jaswal declined the role due to the ongoing legal tussle.
With the tagline “Running against the odds,” the teaser provides a sneak peek into Shoaib Akhtar’s journey – from battling childhood adversities to conquering obstacles on the path to triumph.
Reports indicate that the film was shot across an impressive 47 locations within a span of 68 days. The ensemble cast features names like Faran Tahir, Saleem Mairaj, Raheela Agha, Salman Shahid, Shafqat Cheema, Usman Peerzada, Umer Aalam, Ghazala Butt, Hamza Khawaja, Rabita Ali, Faiza Khan, Omair Rana, Adnan Shah Tipu, Rahim Pardesi, Hammad Siddique, Baatin Farouqi, alongside Rasheed in the pivotal role.
However, the teaser’s release coincides with rumors of a production halt. In January, the renowned fast-bowler distanced himself from the biopic, citing “repeated contractual violations.” Akhtar vehemently warned of “severe legal action” should the filmmakers continue using his life story without consent.
Recent updates from July reveal that Akhtar has successfully secured a stay order against the biopic’s makers.
“Rawalpindi Express,” directed by Faraz Qaiser and produced by Q films, offers an intriguing perspective on Shoaib Akhtar’s life and journey. The screenplay is penned by Qaiser Nawaz.
Shoaib Akhtar, famously known for his lightning-fast pace and holding the record for the fastest delivery in cricket history, represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs, and 15 T20Is.
