KU VC Khalid Iraqi Dismisses Maulana Maududi as an Islamic Thinker and Threatens Teachers

Karachi: During a recent meeting of the Research Board at the University of Karachi, Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi refused to recognize Syed Abul A’la Maududi as a political and Islamic thinker, asking “Who is Maududi? Is he someone who holds political ideas?” The professors present at the meeting expressed concern over Dr. Khalid Iraqi’s irresponsible behavior and clarified that Syed Abul A’la Maududi is an Islamic thinker whose many books are read as references in the field of political science. However, Dr. Khalid Iraqi refused to accept this stance.

According to details, during the monthly meeting of the University of Karachi’s Research Board ASRB, a research paper proposal on Syed Abul A’la Maududi by a student was presented. Vice Chancellor of Karachi University Dr. Khalid Iraqi rejected it, saying that Maududi is neither an academic personality nor someone who holds Islamic and political ideas, on which a research paper can be written. The VC’s offensive and unethical attitude has caused severe grief and anger among professors and students.

In recent days, complaints of continuous unethical behavior and intimidation by Dr. Khalid Iraqi towards professors, and non-professorial staff have been increasing. A few days ago, while threatening employees, Dr. Khalid Iraqi also used the names of officials from secret agencies and high-level intelligence agency officials, causing severe distress and fear among the staff.

The University of Karachi employees have appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh Justice (Retd.) Maqbool Baqar, law enforcement agencies, and intelligence officials to take notice of this situation.
