Lahore: The leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) could not reach a consensus regarding the return of the party’s leader and former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan. According to private TV channels, Nawaz Sharif’s family sources have confirmed that he will arrive in Pakistan by mid-September.
A consultative meeting of the PML-N leaders was held under the chairmanship of party president Shahbaz Sharif to discuss the political situation in the country, general elections, and Nawaz Sharif’s return to the homeland.
According to sources, some leaders who participated in the meeting proposed Nawaz Sharif should return by September while others said he should come back by October. They said Nawaz Sharif’s return and facing the law could politically benefit the party.
Some leaders also took the stance that cases against Nawaz Sharif were made out of prejudice and wrong sentences were awarded. Hurdles in his way should be removed before he returns to the country. Nawaz Sharif himself wants to face the law, but we don’t want to take any risk regarding his return, they stated.
According to party sources, Shahbaz Sharif is also taking final recommendations from political and legal experts regarding Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming. In a few days, he will meet Nawaz Sharif in London and then consult on the possible return plan.
After the final consultation between Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif will himself announce his return to the homeland in a packed press conference, according to party sources.
