Islamabad: After Imran Khan was given a 3 years sentence in the Toshakhana case, the Election Commission issued a notification disqualifying Imran Khan for five years. According to the notification, the District Sessions Judge under Section 167 of the Election Act found Chairman PTI guilty of corrupt practices, and under Article 63-1(h), Chairman PTI has been disqualified. As per the Election Commission, after the completion of the sentence, under Article 63-1(h) Chairman PTI’s disqualification penalty will take effect. The former Prime Minister has also been served a D-Notice of NA-45.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has directed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit a response by August 15 regarding the inter-party election issue. A 5-member commission under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner heard the case related to the PTI’s inter-party elections, during which PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner Barrister Gohar presented and requested additional time for a response. The Election Commission accepted the request.
The Election Commission has postponed the hearing for the prohibited funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf until August 22.
