In a tragic incident today (Thursday), an explosion occurred outside a police station in the Bara Bazar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district, resulting in the martyrdom of two police officers and injuries to multiple others. The authorities suspect it to be a suicide blast.
According to reports, miscreants attacked the office of Bara Tehsil, leading to intense gunfire from both sides, causing panic and destruction in the vicinity. The explosion caused severe damage to nearby buildings, and the nature of the blast is still being investigated.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Warsak Arshad Khan revealed that the officers were attacked while changing shifts. The attackers managed to flee the scene, triggering an ongoing search operation to apprehend them.
The injured were promptly taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar for treatment. Among the injured were three policemen.
This incident comes merely two days after a separate suicide blast case in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar, where eight people were injured near a security forces vehicle.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has experienced an alarming rise in terrorism-related incidents this year, with a total of 146 policemen martyred in various attacks throughout the region. Authorities are on high alert and have increased their response against terrorism, with security forces killing at least 236 militants and arresting 295 suspected militants during the first half of 2023.
