Sethi fails to meet PM, meets Parvez Rashid

LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday turned down a request by PCB’s Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi to hold a meeting.

According to sources, Najam Sethi had been trying to meet Prime Minister Sharif for four days and was in contact with officials of PM House.

In a message, the prime minister politely declined Sethi’s request for the meeting. “I will call you whenever I have time,” the prime minister said.

Sources privy to the cricket board has revealed Chairman Shaharyar Khan also made a separate request to meet PM Sharif.

Najam Sethi wanted to brief the prime minister about the team’s poor performance in World Twenty2 and Asia Cup.

Failing to meet PM, Najam Sethi called on information minister Parvez Rashid and during the meeting, Parvez Rashid offered to make him head of an important government department.

Yesterday, Waqar Younis, the head coach of national team, called on Federal Minister Riaz Prizada and requested the government’s intervention in PCB’s affairs.

Younis was furious after his confidential report on team’s performance in World Twenty20 was leaked to media.

In his report, Younis was highly critical of Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad.
